Senator Barnaby Joyce
Senator for Queensland
Biography
Barnaby Joyce was elected to the Senate for Queensland in 2004 and commenced his six year term on July 1, 2005.
Based in St.George, he has the most western-based Senator's office in the State. With the strong support of his family and constituents behind him, Barnaby is committed to his job of representing Queenslanders in the Senate.
Barnaby knows what it's like to work hard to support a young family and to build a small business from scratch. He also knows how to be an active member of the community.
Born in Tamworth, New South Wales in 1967, Barnaby grew up with five siblings on the family's sheep and cattle property in Danglemah, in the Southern New England district. He attended boarding school in Riverview before completing a commerce degree at the University of New England in Armidale. Always keen to participate, Barnaby played first grade rugby and was a member of the St Vincent De Paul Society at university.
In 1993 Barnaby married Natalie and together they moved to St George in Western Queensland and set up their accounting business. Barnaby, Natalie and their four daughters continue to live in St George today.
He is a member of the Rotary Club in St.George and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He served as president of the local branch of the St.Vincent De Paul Society for six years and played a central part in the establishment of The Balonne Skill Centre. The Skill Centre is a fantastic local initiative that allows people to stay and train in their regional community. Between 1994 and 1999, he served in the Australian Army Reserve.
