Biography
John Forrest was born and raised in the Mallee at Red Cliffs.
With a Master of Science and Bachelor of Engineering degree, John was a successful Consulting Engineer prior to entering Parliament in his own private practices. Local Government service includes three years as a Councillor with the Swan Hill City Council and service as a Member of the Swan Hill Water Board.
John is a member of a number of Parliamentary Committees. Married to Pam, with two adult daughters, John strongly supports the importance of a stable family environment.
John Forrest’s achievements for his electorate include:
- $23.6 million to complete the piping of the Northern Mallee section of the Wimmera Mallee Stock and Domestic Water Supply system – the largest open channel system in the world.
- $3.5 million towards a detailed design proposal to complete the pipeline project through the Wimmera
- Extensive mobile telephone coverage throughout the Wimmera Mallee
- 76 nursing places increasing to 106 in 2008 for the Horsham Campus of Ballarat University
- 20 nursing places increasing to 55 in 2008 for the Mildura Campus of La Trobe University
- Multiple GreenCorps Progams providing employment opportunities to young people who have made a significant contribution to the local environment.
