Residents suffering from dodgy digital TV reception throughout the Burdekin, Bowen and Mackay and the Whitsundays are being urged to make a submission to the Senate inquiry which will look at the roll out of digital TV in Queensland.
Last week Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen raised the issues surrounding bad digital television reception with the Communication Minister’s advisors and members of Regional Broadcasting Australian (which is responsible for the federal government’s digital television roll-out).
The legislation relating to the digital TV roll out was referred to a Senate Inquiry yesterday, with submissions due by Wednesday 9th March 2011. The Senate Environment and Communications Committee is due to report back on 21st March 2011.
Mr Christensen said he had received many complaints about nearly no reception in areas like Dingo Beach, Hydeaway, Gumlu and Guthalungra, and patchy reception in Bowen, Inkerman and even North Mackay.
Mr Christensen said he intended to hold a series of digital TV forums in those areas that are worst effected, so he can hear first hand the issues with digital TV throughout the electorate.
“I would encourage people to get in contact with me and also make a submission to the committee through their ec.sen@aph.gov.au e-mail address, even if all they have to offer is a one-line statement about digital television reception in their area,” Mr Christensen said.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Communications will inquire into and report to Parliament on the Broadcasting Legislation Amendment (Digital Dividend and Other Measures) Bill 2011.
