Coulton’s Catch-up
28-January-2013
Written by Mark Coulton MP -
Australia Day is a chance to celebrate all that is great about Australia. There were many locally
organised celebrations right across the Parkes electorate. These celebrations capture the spirit of our national day and acknowledge the great things about Australia including our people, our land, our diversity, our sense of a fair go, our lifestyle, our democracy and our freedoms.
This year I celebrated Australia Day in Wellington and Gulgong. It was a great
honour to celebrate this important day with these communities. I presented local champions with awards to
recognise their selfless service to their community and I was also fortunate enough to officially welcome new Australian citizens to our electorate.
Australia really is a great place to live and the spirit and enthusiasm shown on Australia Day only reinforces that.

Federal Parliament returns next week for the first parliamentary sitting week of the year. With the current shambles that is our hung Parliament and also being an election year, 2013 can be considered one of the most anticipated years in Federal politics in quite some time. It is a year when people will make a significant choice on who they want to manage the Australian economy for the next three years.
The current Government’s waste and mismanagement
continues to drain the economy and the current spate of false, unfunded promises for programs that do not begin until after the next election is a familiar ploy from a government not able to run on its record.
Over the coming months, the Coalition will be
explaining in detail our plans to deliver a strong and prosperous economy and a safe and secure Australia. The Nationals are looking ahead to the opportunities for regional Australians, to achieving the full potential of the regions, to rewarding the hard work and effort of regional Australians and
to regional Australia being the valued and supported driver of Australia’s growth and prosperity. We focus on regional Australia because regional areas are the
epicentre for a national economic recovery.
What every Australian wants and needs
is good government, and the key to a good Government is one that does not encroach on people’s lives and livelihoods. This Labor-Greens-Independent Government has failed in many ways and the time has come for this experiment to end. Under the leadership of Tony Abbott and Warren Truss, Australia will get
the strong, stable government we so desperately need.
Whatever happens in 2013 one thing will be for certain – it will be a fascinating and historical year in Federal politics.
