O’Dowd dons a teal ribbon for Ovarian Cancer Month

27-January-2012

Ken O'Dowd MP -

Ken O’Dowd is donning a teal ribbon this February for Ovarian Cancer Month.

Ovarian cancer is a disease where cells in the ovaries develop abnormally resulting in cancer.

Most recent figures suggest that incidences in Flynn Electorate is equal to that of  the States average.

The diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer is made more difficult given that there is no detection test and that the cancer cannot be detected via routine Pap smear exams.

Ken O’Dowd has warned women in Flynn to be on the look out for warning signs.

The warning signs and symptoms most commonly include: abdominal or pelvic pain, increased abdominal size or persistent abdominal bloating, needing to urinate often or urgently, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly.

Ken O’Dowd has urged women to seek medical advice should these symptoms reoccur over a four week period.
