Why are donations to The Nationals important?

The Nationals are largely funded by donations from people who support the role our Party plays in Australia’s Parliaments and the work we do to advance the interests of all regional Australians.

The Nationals have a plan to build stronger regions and a stronger Australia. We want to provide security for local communities and their families and decent health, safety, social and economic welfare services. And we want to provide the opportunity for all Australians to achieve their potential.

But fighting elections is expensive. In the 2007 Federal election, the union movement spent $20.8 million supporting Labor’s campaign – more than any of the political parties and an enormous fillip to the Labor party’s own advertising spend of almost $14 million. Labor and the unions are spending millions more on this election.

Without donations, The Nationals would not be able to operate, let alone compete against the huge campaign resources of Labor and its union allies. Ultimately that would diminish regional Australia’s voice in the Parliament and the diversity of representation in Australia’s democracy. That is not in regional Australia’s interest or the national interest.

By contributing a cash donation to The Nationals, you can help us get our message out. You will also be helping to return The Nationals to Government and secure the future of regional Australia. Any amount will make a difference, no matter how big or small.
